Columbia Pictures’ new family-oriented action comedy “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” opened to a solid $22 million in North America, giving strong competition to “Fast & Furious 7” which still managed to hold on for the No.1 box-office rank for the third week.

“It was a little scary to be in [‘Furious 7’s’] wake, but that Blart is tough stuff,” said Rory Bruer, Sony’s distribution chief. “We exceeded expectations and held our ground despite this juggernaut.”
The film brought back Kevin James as the hapless shopping center cop, but transplanted the segway shenanigans to Las Vegas.

“This movie is about having fun and having some laughs with the whole family, and it delivers on that,” said Bruer. “If critics don’t get that, I guess maybe they needed to see it with an audience or bring their kids.”

After six years of keeping our malls safe, Paul Blart (Kevin James) has earned a well-deserved vacation. He heads to Vegas with his teenage daughter (Raini Rodriguez) before she heads off to college. But safety never takes a holiday and when duty calls, Blart answers.

Starring Kevin James, Raini Rodriguez, Neal McDonough, and Shirley Knight, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” is directed by Any Fickman, from a screenplay by Kevin James & Nick Bakay. The film is produced by Todd Garner, Kevin James, Adam Sandler and Jack Giarraputo.

Opening across the Philippines on May 06, 2015, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” will be distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
