An Icon like no other
It came as no surprise that he is then and till now a much-sought after local performer in the Island today. His concert expertise and singing power cannot be faulted, thus he managed to stay strong in an industry that seems to be dominated by younger blood. Suffice to say, he coined the adjective excellent as per flair to his art is concern and without controversy, Sir Martin Nieverra is one of the smartest and well-respected showman of his genre, being idolized by various generations of singers.
His Trademark Bravado
Martin’s presence has liven up the dim-lighted hall of Luxent Hotel in Timog with his ascerbic wit and seasoned humor combined. It sure was an antidote for a gloomy week that was in the metro. Making the so-called “Big Mouth” zip his lips, not to talk, and not to pull prank about everything and everyone in a snap is like telling the rainbow not to be colourful.
Q & A with the Master Bozo
Are you going to dance in the concert?, – “Back in the day I never dance, so “NO, I wouldn’t. I don’t want Gary V to lose his job, he said in jest accompanied by a poker face.
This has been among the spiel he mastered, yet it always sounds new when he does, hilarious as always. A traditional media man, asked: “How’s your relationship with your exes?” (referring to his estrange partners), “I am friend with my exes, and I hope I have more exes to come”. Dang! – he has made our day!
What’s your new motto in life? “To listen Stop Talking”. Is that a new Martin?. – “I’m Trying”.
How is your Filipino? – “Very Bad”, he replied without blinking of an eye.
He might have had difficulty with the Tagalog language had since he spent much of his years in the States but when he belt the ballads, there’s no trace of a someone singing the Filipino songs he did not fully comprehend. He owns the pieces, embraces each line and he delivered the hymn from the heart making him an effective interpreter. The same goes for Visayan Song which he finds more challenging to render. Cebuanos, he acknowledged, are quite picky about their choice of songs. Interestingly, theirs will be part of his musical line up come this August 26th.
A must see
What an audience would expect from your show? “we decided not just to have the song in my latest CD, but the whole song in celebration of my 34th years in the biz. “all of the songs that we could fit in one night we gonna do in this night”.
It will be Martin’s first time to collaborate with another legend Noel Cabangon. The divine diva, Ms. Zsazsa Padilla will also duet with the King for a night of OPM love songs of yesterday and today, assuring the the audience of a musically great & entertaining show with the MadMan himself and his cohorts.
A Concert for a Cause
