The Uninvited: A Riveting Revenge Thriller at MMFF 2024

The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has been a cornerstone of Philippine cinema for five decades, celebrating the richness and diversity of Filipino storytelling. For its 50th anniversary, the inclusion of Uninvited, is a thrilling revenge drama that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Directed by Dan Villegas, the film combines two acting powerhouses, Vilma Santos and Aga Muhlach, in a story that masterfully blends suspense, emotion, thought-provoking and high-stakes drama.

The plot follows Lilia/Eva (Vilma Santos), a grieving mother driven to seek justice for her daughter’s untimely death. Convinced that Guilly (Aga Muhlach), a ruthless billionaire, is to blame, Eva devises a daring plan to infiltrate his opulent party disguised as one of the guests. As her meticulously laid plans unfold, the film takes viewers on a rollercoaster of tension and unexpected twists.

Vilma Santos delivers a powerhouse performance, bringing raw emotion and steely resolve to her character. Aga Muhlach, as the enigmatic and morally complex Guilly, provides a worthy foil, adding depth to the narrative. Nadine Lustre showed a different side of acting. It was her first time portraying a dark role, feisty, and gutsy unlike any other character she played in a movie.

Supporting cast members, including Tirso Cruz III, Mylene Dizon, Lotlot de Leon, RK Bagatsing, Elijah Canlas, Gabby Padilla, Ketchup Eusebio, Gio Alvarez, Cholo Barretto, Nonie Buencamino, and Mentorque Productions home grown talent Ron Angeles further enrich the story with compelling performances.

What sets The Uninvited apart is its bold storytelling and gripping direction. Villegas doesn’t shy away from exploring the darker sides of human emotions, creating a tale that is as thrilling as it is thought-provoking. The film’s pacing, sharp cinematography, and suspenseful score amplify the tension, making every moment count.

The film’s themes of grief, justice, and the lengths a mother will go to protect her child resonate deeply, ensuring it leaves a lasting impression on its audience.

The young film producer and owner of Mentorque Production extend his appreciation to the press and bloggers for their continued support to his latest offering, UNINVITED, an official entry to the 50th Anniversary of MMFF.

Uninvited is not just an official entry to the 50th MMFF; it is a celebration of what the festival stands for—a platform for creativity, innovation, and storytelling that reflects the Filipino spirit. It reminds us of how far Philippine cinema has come and inspires hope for the stories yet to be told.

Uninvited is an official entry to the 50th Anniversary of MMFF, produced by Mentorque Productions, Project 8 Projects and released via Warner Brothers.
